My life as a writer and reader

My life as a writer and reader is composed of many strengths and weaknesses. One story that tells about my strength in writing was when I won a poetry award in my Junior year. Junior Day, a tradition at Fairhaven High, is when the junior class become seniors. When they announced my name as "honorable mention" for my excellent effort, I felt proud, even though I did not win. Last semester, in English 090, I became much stronger, throughout the semester, when writing the essays in class. For example, I improved by getting help, using graphic organizers, and writing rough drafts. Writing is no longer my fear. In middle and early high school, I did not do well on the writing assignments on tests. Writing made me nervous due to my fear of creating sentences and finding supporting details to support my statements. Now in this spring semester, writing for me is easier for me, than it was when I was a teenager.  When I was younger reading was never a favorite of mine compared to my peers.  Now I consider reading as becoming more of a strength. When I have a reading assignment in school I now know strategies to help me remember information from the book. Some of the strategies that help me remember information are: writing summaries after each chapter and listening to audio books and reading along with the story to learn words unknown to me.  During elementary and early middle school reading was not my favorite subject.  This due to having to read and remember all the information from the story. Readings were hard because I could never keep up with my peers. Reading and writing have become less challenging since middle school. Hopefully, this semester reading and writing will continue to be easier for me.
